Below you will find some information on each of our therapists. Keep in mind that if you are interested in receiving counseling with us, your first contact will be with our referral coordinator, who will work with you to find the best match between you and one of our therapists. This matching is based on several criteria, including your preference for a male or female therapist, areas of special expertise, who can take a specific insurance or HMO, hours of availability, and the available openings of each therapist. Donna Whipple, PsyD
Dr. Donna Whipple is a licensed clinical psychologist, a certified health services provider, and a licensed mental health counselor. She was a Phi Beta Kappa graduate of University of Massachusetts, Amherst, in 1984. She received her Masters degree in Counseling Psychology from Lesley College in 1987, and her Doctorate in Clinical Psychology from Antioch New England Graduate School in 1994. Dr. Whipple completed a Harvard Medical School Clinical Fellowship in neuropsychology and medical psychology at the Brockton/West Roxbury VAMC in 1994. Dr. Whipple has had experience in a variety of clinical settings, including inpatient, outpatient, nursing home, and day treatment centers. Dr. Whipple's primary therapeutic approach is Cognitive Behavioral. She has extensive experience with all age groups. Her specialties include child and adolescent issues, couples treatment, women's issues, psychological testing, geriatrics, ADHD, and adjustment to medical illness.
Richard Kaufman, MSW, LICSW, BCD
Rick Kaufman received his BA in Psychology from Hampshire College in 1977, and his
Master's in Social Work (MSW) from Simmons College School for Social Work in 1980.
He is a Board-Certified Diplomate in Clinical Social Work. He has worked over the years in several clinical and administrative capacities. These have included an inpatient psychiatric unit, both adult and adolescent psychiatric day treatment programs, a therapeutic school for troubled teens, and a mental health clinic. He is the former Clinical Director and Associate Executive Director of Associates for Human Services, a large clinic in Taunton, Mass. Since 1990 he has been Co-Director of Psychotherapy Associates of North Reading. In addition to the administrative responsibilities, he has carried a full-time case load, and provides individual, couples, family and group psychotherapy to adults, adolescents and children. His specialities include couples therapy, panic and anxiety disorders, child and adolescent behavior problems, and relationship issues. His approach to therapy is eclectic, and draws from several schools. The primary emphasis is on Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy, but he also draws from his extensive training in Psychodynamic Therapy.
Joyce Davis, MSW, LICSW
Joyce received her BA in Human Services from Lesley College in 1981. She received her MSW from Smith College in 1988. She has worked extensively with adolescents and adults in a variety of clinical and administrative capacities. These include locked residential programs, outpatient settings and a school setting. She is the former co-coordinator of the Managed Care Team at Boston Regional Medical Center, where her responsibilities included supervising staff and providing services to suicidal children, adolescents and adults. Joyce has worked at Psychotherapy Associates since 1992, and provides individual and family treatment to children, adolescents and adults. Her specialities include parenting work, adolescent and adult issues, women's issues, work with trauma survivors, and relationship issues.
Cheryl Kronhaus, MSW, LICSW
Cheryl received her BSW from Salem State College in 1986 and her Master's in Social Work from Boston University in 1987. Over the years she has worked in both clinical and administrative capacities. These have included a therapeutic foster care program, school-based therapist battered women's program and a mental health clinic. Cheryl is the former Program Director for a home-based treatment program in Lowell and Program Director for a Battered Women's Program in Somerville. Since April of 1998 she has been a full-time therapist at Psychotherapy Associates of North Reading. She provides individual, couples, family and group psychotherapy to adults, adolescents and children. Her specialties include anxiety and panic disorders in children and adults, child and adolescent behavior problems, trauma treatment with adults and children, grief and loss with adults and children. Cheryl's therapeutic approach comes from several sources . The primary emphasis is Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy, but also draws from her training with clients in crisis.
Roxanne Cirelli, MA, LMHC, LRC
Roxanne received her BS in psychology at the University of Utah in 1977 and her MA in rehabilitation counseling at Boston University/Sargent College in 1982. She is licensed as both a rehabilitation counselor and as a mental health counselor. Roxanne comes to PANR with a wide variety of experience over the past twenty-five years. She has been an instructor in psychology and mental health technology, and an administrator in post-secondary education, disability and psychiatric rehabilitation. Roxanne has specialized training and understanding of the impact of disabilities on daily living and helps individuals with disabilities realize their potential and know their rights. Roxanne sees a wide variety of client populations from children, adolescents, adults, couples and families/stepfamilies. She works primarily out of our Amesbury office.
Carole Davidson, MA, LMHC, LRC
Carole received her BA from the George Washington University in Washing D.C. in 1970. She received her M.Ed. in Expressive Arts Therapy from Lesley College in 1979. Carole has a unique ability to combine expressive art therapy in various forms with traditional psychotherapy. She has a special interest in the treatment of issues of loss, whether due to dealth, illness or other causes. Carole has worked in a variety of clinical settings. She loves helping people of all ages, and has a particular talent in working with children.
Peter Reed, MSW, LICSW
Pete received his BA and his MSW from the University of Michigan. He has a great deal of experience working with children, adolescents and families. Most recently Pete was the Clinical Director of The Children's Connection & Cornerstones School in Beverly, Massachusetts. He is the former Executive Director of The Anchorage. Pete has worked with children and their families in a wide variety of settings, including outpatient, inpatient, schools, foster care and group homes. Pete's specialties include working with survivors of childhood trauma, mutli-problem families and challenging adolescents. Pete has also studied and practiced the use of music in the therapeutic process.
Ann Peabody, LMHC
Ann received her degree in Expressive Therapy from Lesley College in Cambridge, MA, where she currently works as an adjunct faculty member. She works with all age groups, and specializes in working with children and adolescents. Her particular areas of expertise include art and expressive therapy, as well as grief counseling. She has experience working in school settings as well as private practice.
Sophia Malliris, LMHC
Sophia received her BA in psychology from Boston University in 2000, and her Master's in Counseling with a focus in mental health from Boston College in 2002. She has worked extensively with adolescents, but also has had experience with younger children and adults. Her experience has been in residential, inpatient and partial hospital settings.
Dave Rafferty, LICSW
Dave received his MSW from Simmons College School of Social Work. He specializes in crisis intervention counseling, and has worked as an administrator in psychiatric emergency services for twenty-six years. Dave offers individual, couples and family therapy. He works out of our Amesbury office.
Tim Hynick, PsyD
Tim is a graduate of Antioch New England with a doctorate in Psychology and a masters in Rehabilitation Therapy. He specializes in child and adolescent psychotherapy, chronic illness and physical disabilities, as well as psychiatric illnesses. He offers extensive experience in the public schools with a certification as a School Pschyologist. Tim is available for individual, couples and family therapy.
Anne Cole, LICSW
Anne received her MSW from Smith College School of Social Work. She specializes in child and adolescent issues, family problems, and geriatrics. Anne has a certificate in Family Counseling from the Cambridge Family Institute. She offers individual, couples and family therapy.
Elizabeth Schumacher, MSW, LICSW
Elizabeth Schumacher is a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker (LICSW). She graduated with a Bachelors in Social Work (BSW) from Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, OH in 1978. She received her Masters in Social Work (MSW) from Simmons College School for Social Work, Boston, MA in 1986. She completed 7 years of post graduate studies in Bioenergetic Analysis, a 70 year old discipline of body oriented psychotherapy. She's a Certified Bioenergetic Therapist (CBT) and the Senior Assistant Trainer for the Massachusetts Society for Bioenergetic Analysis in Cambridge, Mass. She has worked in both clinical and administrative capacities in inpatient, outpatient and community day treatment settings. She has provided individual, group, couples and family treatment to adults, children and the elderly. Her areas of focus include mind/body oriented psychotherapy, psychosomatic difficulties, addictions recovery issues, depression, anxiety, panic disorder, eating disorders and grief work. She uses traditional psychotherapy techniques as well as cognitive-behavioral therapy, skill teaching, bioenergetics, and a body oriented understanding of issues.
Margrit Romang, PhD, LMHC
Dr. Romang received her PhD in psychology from the Union Institute in Ohio in 1986. She has a Master's Degree in Expressive Therapy from Lesley College and is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor. Dr. Romang has a great deal of experience with all age clients. She has specialized skills in the area of child therapy, sexual abuse evaluations, trauma, substance abuse and family therapy. Dr. Romang is particularly gifted in the area of integrating verbal and expressive therapies. She is fluent in English and German.
